Although the Forsaken expansion doesn’t launch for another week, today is still a big day for Destiny 2 players. The 2.0 update is live for all players, bringing with it many of the changes promised with Forsaken.

As the name implies, Destiny 2’s 2.0 update is meant to make sweeping changes to Bungie’s game. Some of those changes we knew about ahead of time but others were kept secret until the patch notes went live after the extended maintenance and downtime.

Of course, the biggest change for Destiny 2 is the new weapon slot system. Instead of the kinetic, elemental, and power weapon arrangement that relegated specific weapons to specific slots, this new system frees things up a bit. Now, players can equip certain sniper rifles or shotguns in their kinetic slot, and non-kinetic versions will move to the elemental/secondary slot like in Destiny 1. It’s a system that works within the confines of Destiny 2 but also should feel more like Destiny 1 in that players can carry two high damage weapons.Paired with that, Bungie has also adjusted damage numbers for numerous weapon archetypes within Destiny 2 in an effort to lower the time to kill in PvP and shift the meta in new directions. Three tap hand cannons (hand cannons that can kill a Guardian with three headshots) are back, but that is only the beginning.This update also paves the way for the new mod system coming with Forsaken next week. Right now, mods are simply inactive, but eventually new mods will come in and take their place. These mods will force players to make specific choices about their armor/build and designate certain weapons for unique tasks.Truly, the update is so large that it’s impossible to cover everything. From more vault slots to improvements to exotic armor, this is the update that active players have been waiting for. Perhaps the biggest change that seems insignificant but which actually make a huge difference is the ability to delete shaders in bulk (stacks of 5). Even with the vault space increase, players are going to be collecting a lot more gear now that random perk rolls are coming back.And best of all, everything included with the update is free for all Destiny 2 players – no Forsaken purchase necessary. Today Bungie and Activision announced two editions for Destiny 2‘s expansion Forsaken that will help new players catch up with the game.
The first is the Destiny 2: Forsaken – Legendary Collection, which will include Destiny 2, Destiny 2: Expansion I: Curse of Osiris, Destiny 2: Expansion II: Warmind, and Destiny 2: Forsaken.

The second is the Destiny 2: Forsaken – Complete Collection, which will include Destiny 2, Destiny 2: Expansion I: Curse of Osiris, Destiny 2: Expansion II: Warmind, Destiny 2: Forsaken, and the annual pass. This will grant players access to the Black Armory coming Winter 2018, Joker’s Wild in Spring 2019, and Penumbra in Summer of 2019.
The Legendary Collection costs $59.99, while the Complete Collection is priced at $99.99.
